Curcumin

It was first used by Indians over 3000 years ago in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Modern science has found that this extract from the common spice turmeric has remarkable qualities as an antioxidant.82-84 Over time, as our cells continue to be affected by free radicals, or oxidants, organs begin to degenerate and aging accelerates. The body has built-in defense mechanisms to protect itself from free radical damage, but eventually, aging depletes the body's ability to keep oxidants at bay. Curcumin can also help maintain normal healthy platelet function and the normal process of bile excretion.85-87 New studies have tied inflammation to over expression of a protein molecule called nuclear factor-kappa beta (NFkB). NFkB acts like a switch to turn on genes that produce the body's inflammatory responses. Because NFkB's expression increases in aging adults, scientists have sought ways to modulate NFkB and its effects in the body. Curcumin has been shown to exert powerful effects within the body,109,110 Curcumin inhibits over expression of NFkB and acts on substances that activate NFkB.* For example, by binding iron and copper in brain tissue, curcumin reduces NFkB activation. Curcumin's multifaceted effects include protecting against estrogen-mimicking chemicals, protecting against damaging free radicals, and promoting normal cell cycle growth.

Sulforaphane

Is a chemical found in broccoli and its cousins, actually made cancer cells like leukemia and melanoma self-destruct. A 2007 Chinese study found that the compound may slow down the spread of breast cancer. Sulforaphane is a compound that prevents cancer by "assisting the body to create an enzyme that prevents tumors from forming. The test showed Sulforaphane from broccoli sprouts reduced cancer by 60-80 percent (Life Extension Dec. 1997). Further studies showed that "Sulforaphane aided in shrinking tumors already present" (Dr. David G. Williams.-Alternatives Jan. 1998) Perhaps the most amazing fact about Sulforaphane from sprouted broccoli is that it does not concentrate on certain organs or particular cancers. Because it fights cancers on a cellular level it helps all organs against all forms of cancer. Sulforaphane is found in large quantities in broccoli and increased levels of 30-50 times the potency are found in broccoli sprouts, thus making broccoli sprouts among the most potent anticarcinogens in the food area.

One cup of broccoli also boasts a whopping 135% of your daily vitamin C needs.

Vitamin C

Here is an Abstract from the American Journal of Epidemiology  about a Canadian Study May 2009

Vitamin C defeciency-

A cross-sectional study of the 979 nonsmoking women and men aged 20–29 years who participated in the Toronto Nutrigenomics and Health Study from 2004 to 2008 was conducted to determine the prevalence of serum ascorbic acid (vitamin C) deficiency and its association with markers of chronic disease in a population of young Canadian adults. High performance liquid chromatography was used to determine serum ascorbic acid concentrations from overnight fasting blood samples. A 1-month, 196-item food frequency questionnaire was used to assess dietary intakes. Results showed that 53% of subjects had adequate, 33% had suboptimal, and 14% had deficient levels of serum ascorbic acid. Subjects with deficiency had significantly higher measurements of mean C-reactive protein, waist circumference, body mass index, and blood pressure than did subjects with adequate levels of serum ascorbic acid. The odds ratio for serum ascorbic acid deficiency was 3.43 (95% confidence interval: 2.14, 5.50) for subjects who reported not meeting the recommended daily intake of vitamin C compared with those who did. Results suggest that 1 of 7 young adults has serum ascorbic acid deficiency, in part, because of unmet recommended dietary intakes. Furthermore, serum ascorbic acid deficiency is associated with elevated markers of chronic disease in this population of young adults, which may have long-term adverse health consequences.

At this time the FDA has just Banned injectable Vitamin C. Contact the FDA and request that they remove this ruling on such an important Supplement.
